For this conservatory upgrade project, the team at Lifestyle Windows travelled to the village of Etwall just outside Derby. Etwall is an affluent village and a popular location for homeowners wanting a tranquil rural location with easy access to the employment opportunities of nearby Derby. It is also only a short drive away from the Lifestyle Windows Ilkeston HQ.

Old conservatory transformation into stylish modern orangery

The Franklin family were fed up with their existing conservatory. The white uPVC panelling and single entrance door did not provide the aesthetic appearance they were looking for. The whole conservatory looked out of place and didn’t connect their interior and exterior living spaces in a smooth flowing way.

After visiting the Franklin’s home and discussing the project with our clients, we agreed that a new Ultraframe orangery would be the perfect choice to transform their extended home living area. While their old conservatory provided poor thermal performance and was often too hot in summer and too cold in winter, a new high-tech Ultraframe orangery would help to create a year-round usable living space that is both stylish and high performing.

Warm deck roof with Ultrasky roof lantern

As part of the orangery upgrade and installation, we installed a warm deck roof with Ultrasky roof lantern. A warm deck roof is designed to maximise energy efficiency through the use of high-quality insulation. Warm deck roofs incorporate a layer of insulation above the roof rafters and between the structural supports. This helps to prevent heat loss through the roof and enables the orangery to achieve a consistent ambient temperature.

To ensure that the new orangery was bright and airy, we installed an Ultrasky roof lantern into the centre of the flat roof. The Ultrasky roof lantern provides excellent levels of thermal performance, helps to boost natural light intake, and enhances the feeling of height in the orangery’s interior. Set into a plastered perimeter ceiling with stylish spotlights, the orangery’s interior is contemporary and stylish with clean lines and attractive laminate flooring.

Smart aluminium tilt and turn windows and bifold doors

For the windows and doors, the Franklins wanted the ability to create a wide opening section to allow a seamless transition from interior to exterior living space. A set of three panel Smart aluminium bifold doors allow the entire side of the orangery to be fully opened leading directly onto a convenient exterior patio area.

On the adjoining side of the orangery, two full length Smart aluminium tilt & turn windows provide an innovative two-way opening. Their dual functionality allows them to be used tilted inwards for handy ventilation or to be fully opened to create an al-fresco-style covered living space. Both the bifold doors and tilt & turn windows are finished in stylish Anthracite Grey to create a stunning modern aesthetic.
