At Lifestyle Windows, we do everything we can to reduce our environmental impact by using a closed-loop recycling process. Working with PVCu profile fabricators Eurocell, our aim is to promote sustainability by setting the standard for recycling PVCu products.

How does closed-loop recycling work?

The Eurocell factory is located in Alfreton, Derbyshire. This is only a short drive away from our own headquarters, so partnering with Eurocell was a sensible option. At the Eurocell factory, any PVCu off-cuts from fabrication are recycled and re-formed into new extruded plastic products. This process can be reproduced multiple times meaning that the left over plastic from our windows can be re-used for hundreds of years and realistically never reach a land-fill site.

It’s not only off-cuts that are recycled at the Eurocell factory. They also receive scrap PVCu from window installers from across the UK. At Lifestyle Windows, when we complete an installation, the old PVCu windows and doors are removed and taken away with us. We then send all plastic components to Eurocell for them to be recycled. In this way, the closed-loop (fabricate, install, remove old windows, transport, shred granulate and micronise PVCu, extrude new profiles, fabricate…) is created, linking fabrication with recycling for a potentially indefinite time period.

Sustainable recycling for a brighter future

Building a more sustainable society is essential both for us and for future generations. Recycling unwanted PVCu products is imperative if we want to avoid plastic mountains destroying the planet’s natural environment. Modern advancements in technology mean that we can recycle more of your old windows than ever before. From window frames and doors to conservatories and building hardware, our aim is to recycle as much as possible, saving money and the environment.

Recycling PVCu also limits the extraction of raw materials from the natural environment. New windows and doors are fabricated to increasingly high standards which helps to boost energy efficiency post-installation, reducing a household’s carbon footprint by lowering emissions. Modern recycling processes have been developed to remove the risk of harmful microbeads entering our waterways helping to protect the planet’s aquatic fragile eco-systems.

Recycling is something that we can all be a part of. From your weekly or fortnightly glass, metal and plastic collections to choosing an eco-conscious company for any home improvement projects.
