Creating the Perfect Orangery

Unlike a standard conservatory, the orangery we built for the Martin family features solid walls with large glazed areas, creating a substantial structure that feels like a natural extension of their home. The orangery provides a versatile new living space that bridges the gap between the main house and the garden.

It's a spacious, light-filled room that can be used for dining, relaxing, or entertaining throughout the entire year, regardless of weather conditions.

Structural Modifications

An important aspect of this project involved structural work to open up the existing house to the new orangery extension. This carefully planned modification created a better flow between the original living space and the new addition.

The structural alterations were carried out in accordance with building regulations to ensure the property remained safe and structurally sound. By opening up this connection, the Martins gained a more spacious, integrated living area rather than two separate spaces.

This work has transformed how the family uses their home, with the orangery becoming a natural extension of their living space rather than an isolated room.

Ultraframe Roof Lantern

At the heart of the orangery design is a stunning Ultraframe roof lantern that floods the space with natural daylight from above. This architectural feature is centrally positioned in the orangery, creating a focal point and adding to the sense of height and space.

The Ultraframe lantern features an ultra-strong ridge design that allows for fewer bars and larger glass panels than typical roof lanterns. This design maximises light while maintaining excellent thermal efficiency. The thermally broken aluminum frame helps prevent heat loss in winter and reduces heat gain in summer, contributing to the year-round comfort of the space.

This centerpiece not only transforms the aesthetics of the orangery but also plays a crucial role in creating a bright, welcoming atmosphere that makes the space enjoyable throughout the day.

Origin OS29 Sliding Doors

To create an easy connection to the garden, we installed Origin OS29 aluminium sliding doors across the back of the orangery. These premium doors feature slim sightlines of just over 1 inch that maximises the glass area, offering excellent views of the outdoor space.

The Origin sliding door comes with clean lines that complement the style of the orangery. They offer security and thermal performance while providing an easy way to open the space to the garden when desired.

The large glass panels maintain a visual connection with the outdoors while keeping the space comfortable in any weather.

Origin OW80 Windows

To complement the orangery, we also installed Origin OW80 aluminium windows to the rear first floor of the property. These premium windows match the orangery doors and update the appearance of the upper floor.

The OW80 system brings more natural light into the upstairs rooms while providing security and thermal efficiency. The aluminium frames require minimal maintenance and provide a quality finish that modernises the property.

A Year-Round Room to Enjoy

The Martin family now enjoys a beautiful orangery that has become an integral part of their home. The roof lantern brings abundant natural light into the space, while the structural opening connects the original house with the new extension, creating a natural flow between areas.

The combination of the Origin sliding doors and windows has improved both the function and appearance of the property. The garden now feels more connected to the living space, letting them enjoy indoor/outdoor living.

This project has added a beautiful, light-filled living space to the Martins' home, increasing it's value and changing how they use their property.
